BookPeek Privacy Policy

The short version

• BookPeek reads Amazon in your own browser. Your searches, the books you look at and the results are never sent to me. BookPeek has no server and no account.
• Your saved searches, your own books and your settings are stored in your browser, and in your own Chrome sync.
• There are no analytics. BookPeek counts nothing and sends nothing about how you use it.
• AI apps can use BookPeek only if you switch that on and allow each app. The connection stays on your computer.
• The only things that ever leave your browser are the ones you press a button to send: the feedback form, and the goodbye page if you uninstall.
• No ads, and nothing is ever sold.

Who this policy covers

This policy is for BookPeek - KDP Book Niche Research + MCP, a Chrome extension made by Muntaseer Rahman ("I", "me"). It explains what the extension does with data. It also covers bookpeek-mcp, the small helper that AI apps use to talk to BookPeek. The rest of muntaseerrahman.com has its own site privacy policy. BookPeek is not affiliated with Amazon.com, Inc.

What BookPeek reads on Amazon

On an Amazon book search, BookPeek reads the results on page 1: each book's title, author, format, price, position and whether it is an advert. To fill in what a search page does not show, it then opens each of those books' own Amazon pages in the background, one at a time, and reads the sales rank, categories, page count, publication date, publisher, dimensions and rating counts. On a book's page, it reads the same things for the book you are looking at.

It also reads your Amazon delivery location, because Amazon shows different results and prices depending on where you are, and a figure is meaningless without knowing which country's store it came from. This is read from Amazon's own page, used to label what you are shown, and never sent anywhere. To draft your seven KDP keyword boxes it asks Amazon's own search-suggestion service for the phrases Amazon offers shoppers, the same ones that drop down under Amazon's search box.

None of this is sent to me or to anyone else. BookPeek never signs in, never fills in or submits an Amazon form, never buys, reviews or posts anything, and never sees or asks for your Amazon password. If Amazon shows a sign-in page instead of what was asked for, BookPeek recognises that page only so it can tell you that you are signed out.

Reviews

When you or your AI app asks what readers say about a book, BookPeek opens that book's Amazon reviews and reads a sample of them: the star rating, title, text, date and whether the purchase was verified. Amazon shows review text only to a signed-in reader, so this needs you to be signed in to Amazon in your own browser — BookPeek uses the session your browser already has and never handles your password. The reviews go to the panel or to your AI app. They are not stored with your saved searches and are not sent to me.

Book samples ("Look inside")

This is off until you switch on Let your AI read book samples in Settings. When it is on, BookPeek can open the free sample Amazon shows any shopper and pass the first few pages, as pictures, to your AI app so it can see how a book is structured. It reads only the front of a sample, never the whole thing and never a page range you choose. The pictures are not saved, not shown anywhere else, and never sent to me.

What BookPeek stores, and where

BookPeek stores the searches you analyse with their results, the books you tell it are your own, your working book title, and your settings. All of it is kept in Chrome's extension storage on your computer. Chrome also keeps a copy of your most recent saved searches, your books and your settings in your Chrome sync, so they appear on your other computers. That copy is handled by Google under your Google account and Google's privacy policy. I cannot see it. A search too large to fit in Chrome sync stays on the computer where you ran it, and BookPeek says so rather than losing it.

AI apps (MCP)

This is off until you switch on Let AI tools use BookPeek on the AI apps page. When it is on, BookPeek connects to bookpeek-mcp, a helper that your AI app runs on your own computer, at the address 127.0.0.1. Nothing is sent over the internet by BookPeek or the helper. The helper keeps one random ID in a file on your computer so BookPeek can remember that you allowed it.

BookPeek asks you to Allow each helper before it answers anything, and it works with one app at a time. An allowed app can ask BookPeek to analyse a search, which it does by opening that Amazon search in a background tab of your Chrome and closing it when done; to read a book's page or its reviews; to compare books; to work out a KDP royalty; and to read your saved searches and your own books. It cannot change or delete anything, and it cannot switch on book samples — Chrome only accepts that from your own click. The results go to that app, and what the app does with them next is covered by its own privacy terms, not this policy. You can remove an app or switch the connection off at any time on the AI apps page.

Anonymous usage counts

There are none. BookPeek sends no analytics of any kind — not on install, not on update, not when you use a feature. There is no counting to switch off, because there is nothing being counted.

Feedback you choose to send

BookPeek has an optional feedback form. If you use it, what you send (your message, the email address you enter so I can reply, the type of feedback and BookPeek's version number) is emailed to me. It passes through a small service that forwards the email and keeps no copy. Nothing is sent unless you press Send.

When you uninstall

When BookPeek is removed, Chrome opens a short goodbye page on this website. Its address carries three numbers: BookPeek's version, how many days it was installed, and how many saved searches you had. Never a search. Nothing is sent unless you tap a reason on that page. If you do, the reason, anything you choose to type, those three numbers and, only if you enter it, your email address are emailed to me through the same service as the feedback form, which keeps no copy.

Permissions and why they are needed

What BookPeek never does

• It does not collect your browsing history, or run on any site other than amazon.com.
• It does not send your searches, the books you read, your results or your samples to me or to any server.
• It does not sign in to Amazon, fill in any Amazon form, or see your Amazon password.
• It does not show ads, use advertising or cross-site trackers, or load any code from the internet.
• It carries no affiliate links of any kind.
• It does not sell or rent your data, and shares it with no one.
• It does not use your data for anything other than researching book niches for you.

BookPeek's use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your control over your data

You can delete any saved search on the Saved searches page, add or remove your own books at any time, and export a search to a CSV file. Deleting a saved search removes it from your other computers too. Uninstalling BookPeek removes its data from that browser.

Children

BookPeek is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them.

Changes to this policy

If BookPeek ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
